In a landmark achievement for Maldivian sports, table tennis player Dheema has become the first athlete from the Maldives to qualify for the Olympic Games.

The announcement was made today by the Maldives Olympic Committee, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s sporting history.



Former Youth and Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof celebrated this momentous occasion on platform X, describing it as a historic day for Maldives sports. He emphasized that Dheema’s success not only highlights her personal dedication but also brings pride to the entire nation.

Mahloof extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dheema, acknowledging the pivotal role played by her parents. He noted that her mother and father have always been the greatest contributors and sacrifices behind Dheema’s success, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support and encouragement.

In his statement, Mahloof also recognized the collective efforts of various organizations and individuals who have contributed to this achievement. He thanked the Maldives Table Tennis Association and its Executive Committee, the Olympic Committee President and Executive Committee, and the current government's Sports Minister Mohamed Raafiu for their support and dedication to advancing sports in the Maldives.

Mahloof expressed confidence that the current administration would continue to provide more opportunities for athletes under the leadership of Minister Raafiu. He believes that the current government will offer more opportunities to players, ensuring their growth and success.
