President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged the newly elected Progressive National Congress (PNC) Parliament members to ensure that the 20th Parliament serves as a widely accepted and respected model institution by the Maldivian people. The request was made during a meeting with government officials and PNC members-elect at the presidential residence, Muliaage, today.

Following the meeting, Funadhoo Constituency Member-elect Abdul Raheem Abdullah (Adhurey) spoke to the media, conveying the President’s message. He noted that the President urged members to prioritize and expedite initiatives that benefit the public and the country.

During the meeting, the PNC members-elect unanimously approved several key appointments: Abdul Raheem Abdullah (Adhurey) as Speaker of the Parliament; Ahmed Nazim (Dhiggaru Constituency) as Vice-President of the Parliament; Ibrahim Falah (Inguraidhoo Constituency) as Parliamentary Group Leader; Ibrahim Shujau (Baarashu Constituency) as Senior Deputy Parliamentary Group Leader; and Mohamed Ismail (Vilimale Constituency), Ahmed Thorig (Mahibadhoo Constituency), and Mohamed Shahid (Hulhudhoo Constituency) as Deputy Leaders of the Parliamentary Group.

The PNC holds a significant majority in the 20th Parliament, with 74 members. The members of the 20th Parliament are set to be sworn in on the 28th of this month.
