In response to recent changes in Sri Lanka's tourist visa scheme, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives has issued a comprehensive statement to assist Maldivian travelers in navigating the updated procedures.

Sri Lanka has recently introduced a new e-visa system, leading to discussions between Maldives and Sri Lankan authorities aimed at ensuring a seamless transition for Maldivian tourists.

Under the revised procedure, Maldivian travelers are granted a complimentary 30-day tourist visa upon arrival in Sri Lanka. However, for visits exceeding 30 days, Maldivians now have the option to apply for a 6-month visa online through the official portal. It is important to note that this extended visa incurs an administrative fee.

For Maldivians already in Sri Lanka requiring a visa extension, the Ministry advises them to contact the Maldives High Commission in Colombo for assistance.

The Ministry emphasizes its commitment to establishing a visa process that aligns with the existing agreement between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, ensuring reciprocity for Maldivian travelers. Ongoing discussions with Sri Lankan authorities aim to address any remaining concerns and further streamline the visa process.
