Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has expressed his heartfelt condolences following a tragic fire incident in Kuwait that claimed the lives of many Indian workers. The fire broke out in a building housing numerous Indian expatriates, resulting in significant loss of life and injuries.
Minister Zameer took to X (formerly Twitter) to convey his sorrow and commend the swift response by the governments of India and Kuwait. He stated, "It is with a heavy heart that I learnt of the tragic fire incident in a building that housed many Indian workers in Kuwait, leading to the loss of many precious lives. The prompt response by the Governments of India and Kuwait is admirable."
He further extended his sympathies to the families affected by the tragedy and wished for the quick recovery of those injured. "My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I also pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured," Zameer added.
Wednesday’s dawn blaze quickly engulfed a housing block home to some of the many foreign laborers servicing the oil-rich gulf state’s economy.
Fifty people died in the resulting inferno, 45 of them Indians, with dozens more hospitalized and anguished relatives back home frantically chasing news of whether their loved ones had perished.
The incident has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the vulnerabilities and challenges faced by migrant workers in foreign countries.
