Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) Vice-Leader and Velidhoo Constituency Member, Mohamed Abbas, has publicly criticized President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, stating there is no basis for the President to secure a second term in office. Abbas shared his views on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) today.
Abbas highlighted his recent visits to 25 islands, where he found no support for the current administration, suggesting that the government had quickly lost the public’s trust. He pointed to the halting of development projects as evidence of the administration's inability to deliver on its promises, further diminishing confidence in the leadership.
Despite his criticism, Abbas expressed hope that the situation could stabilize in the near future and that the government could realign its actions with the people’s expectations. He also reaffirmed his willingness to collaborate with the government through constructive criticism, aiming to benefit the citizens.
Abbas's remarks follow mounting dissatisfaction within the MDA, particularly after several senior party members, including his son, were removed from government positions. His increasing criticism reflects a growing divide within the ruling coalition, raising questions about President Muizzu's potential for re-election.
