Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muthalib revealed significant issues with the flat list issued by the previous government for the "Gedhoruveriya" Housing Scheme. The government today announced a revised list of flat beneficiaries, addressing several discrepancies in the previous administration's handling of the list.

Dr. Muthalib disclosed that members of the previous flat committee had retained access to the "Gedhoruveriya" portal even after the change of government, with some accessing the portal as late as November 18, 2023. He pointed out that the previous government rushed to announce and distribute the flats within just two days, raising concerns about the integrity of the process.

Among the issues, the minister highlighted that some individuals included in the list had submitted incorrect or incomplete documentation. For example, one individual had uploaded only a copy of their ID card, instead of the necessary documents to prove they had lived in the city for the required 15 years, yet they were still included as a flat recipient.

Additionally, Dr. Muthalib mentioned that some people employed in rural areas were included in the list by submitting documents showing employment in the city, despite being employed elsewhere. The previous government had initially planned to allocate flats to 3,119 individuals, but these discrepancies have raised questions about the fairness and accuracy of the process.

The revised flat list aims to address these concerns, ensuring that only eligible individuals will benefit from the Gedhoruveriya Housing Scheme.
